WASHINGTON — The countdown to a government shutdown is now in its final hours.

As of Tuesday evening, federal lawmakers have just hours to strike a deal to keep the government funded — and partisan gridlock is threatening to derail it.

The biggest sticking point: healthcare.

Democrats want the new funding bill to include increased healthcare spending and an extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies. They are hoping to reverse cuts to Medicaid imposed by the Republican-backed 'Big, Beautiful Bill' that was signed into law this summer.
