West Virginia State’s football team had a complete effort in a convincing win on Saturday, and the Yellow Jackets won multiple Mountain East Conference player of the week awards as reward.

WVSU receiver Amare Ary split MEC offensive player of the week honors with Concord quarterback Tyler Mizzell, and Yellow Jackets lineman Gemel Smith is the league’s defensive player of the week.

Ary amassed 189 receiving yards and two scores on just three receptions in WVSU’s 60-39 defeat of Fairmont State. The non-touchdown catch among the trio was a one-hander that made ESPN SportsCenter’s top plays.

Smith contributed a sack and a fumble recovery in the Yellow Jackets victory.

Mizzell threw for 391 yards and hit 76.7% of his passes in the Mountain Lions’ weather-shortened defeat of West Liberty.
