MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Dozens of families are displaced after a fire tore through a Muskegon apartment Sunday evening, destroying 36 units.
The fire broke out just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Glen Oaks Apartments, according to the Muskegon Fire Department. That’s in the area of Marquette Avenue and Harvey Street.
Among the displaced residents is Nataly Rankin, who told News 8 she and her family lost everything.
“Everybody goes through things — I just thought I’d never be in that predicament,” she said. “And to have my babies scared like, ‘Oh my God, it’s a fire’... nobody wants that.”
Now staying with a family friend, Rankin is navigating the aftermath without a job and without her home. She said apartment management could offer little support given the scale of the damage.
