Qantas has confirmed it will shut down crew bases in Hobart, Canberra and Mildura, a decision that will affect about 70 workers.

The airline says the move, which takes effect from April 2026, follows a detailed review and is designed to improve reliability across its network.

QantasLink chief executive Rachel Yangoyan said the shake-up would see crew consolidated in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

“Consolidating our crew bases so we have more of our pilots and cabin crew flying out of our major airports will enable us to deliver a more reliable service for our customers,” she told The Australian.

“This will help us better respond to disruptions and improve reliability across our regional network.”

Staff in the three affected cities will be given options to either relocate with support
