Almost 30 years ago, on a frigid, gray afternoon on Jan. 26, 1996, John E. du Pont, an heir to the du Pont family fortune and one of the wealthiest men in America, gunned down beloved Olympic gold medalist and father Dave Schultz on the grounds of his estate in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
The three bullets du Pont pumped into Schultz crushed his chest. He died on a snow-covered driveway in the arms of his wife shortly before a school bus was expected to arrive with their children.
