BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Teenagers continue to face rising online challenges at a rapid pace, and a social media expert said two new developments could make digital spaces even more dangerous: artificial intelligence and moderation cuts.

"In some ways, this is going to be even more dramatic than what we've seen before," said Stephen Balkam, the CEO of the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI).

FOSI is a nonprofit group that promotes best practices for online safety. It counts Meta, TikTok and other major companies as partners and members.

"We've been doing this since before the iPhone was launched," Balkam said.
