KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — On Oct. 11, visitors to the Kent District Library Kentwood Branch can attend Literacy A-Listers, a celebration of students and tutors apart of West Michigan literacy nonprofit SLD Read.

"The event is designed to celebrate the people working toward literacy in our community," Kristen Potts, CEO of SLD Read, said.

Helping nearly 250 students each year, SLD Read takes students who are struggling with reading comprehension from an early age and puts them into a specialized, one-on-one mentorship program. • Students and tutors attend Literacy A-Listers, an awards night for students improving their reading comprehension skills with nonprofit SLD Read.
