A Winnipeg man has been sentenced to six years in prison for his role in a shooting and arson incident at the home of Indo-Canadian pop star AP Dhillon in British Columbia. Abjeet Kingra, 26, was convicted of intentionally and recklessly discharging a firearm and arson related to the attack on Dhillon's property in Colwood on September 2, 2024.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that Kingra has ties to the Bishnoi gang, which is based in India. A judge determined that the attack was not an isolated incident. The Bishnoi gang has been linked to various violent crime investigations across Canada and was recently designated as a terrorist entity by the federal government.

Kingra received a six-year sentence in Victoria provincial court, with 4½ years remaining after accounting for time already served. Additionally, he was given a two-year sentence for the arson charge, which will run concurrently with the firearm conviction. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, which involved the shooting and the burning of two vehicles on Dhillon's property.

Kingra was arrested in Ontario last October. Authorities are still searching for a second suspect, 24-year-old Vikram Sharma, who is believed to have fled to India. The investigation into the incident continues as police work to locate Sharma and gather more information about the attack.
