Three individuals were shot at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Dallas, and the shooter is deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the agency's director. Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons confirmed the incident during a CNN interview on Wednesday.
Lyons stated, "It could be employees, it could be civilians that were visiting the facility, it could be detainees," referring to those who were shot. He added that the investigation is ongoing and details are still being sorted out.
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem indicated that information is still emerging. She confirmed that there were "multiple injuries and fatalities" at the facility. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but Noem noted a recent increase in attacks targeting ICE agents.
Emergency responders flooded the area, with dozens of emergency vehicles seen along a nearby highway. As of now, ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have not provided further details regarding the incident.
This shooting follows a series of violent incidents targeting immigration facilities in Texas. In July, a police officer was injured during an attack at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, where assailants dressed in military-style clothing opened fire. At least 11 individuals have been charged in connection with that incident. Additionally, shortly after, a heavily armed man shot at federal agents at a U.S. Border Patrol facility near the U.S.-Mexico border, injuring a police officer before being killed by authorities.
