CHEMUNG, N.Y. (WETM) — Attorney General Letitia James' Office announced on Wednesday that the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) is launching an investigation into the police-involved shooting death of an 18-year-old from Chemung in September.

The OSI opened the investigation following the death of Nathan Novakowski, who died on Sept. 28 after an encounter with members of the New York State Police and Chemung County Sheriff's Office, the AG's Office said.

Law enforcement was sent to a home in Chemung on Sept. 28 for a reported domestic dispute. Officers were met by Novakowski and learned he was allegedly threatening a woman with a pair of scissors.
