As the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) strike looms over the heads of grade school students and their parents, the provincial government has developed a plan to support families in the event of a strike.

The plan includes a payment program to support parents experiencing financial stress due to childcare costs. An online learning toolkit has also been developed to support students with at-home self-taught learning.

The program will be available to parents and guardians of students aged 12 and under who attend a public, separate or francophone school and are affected by teacher strikes.

Eligible parents will receive 30 dollars per day, or 150 dollars per week, for the duration of the ATA’s strike, with the first payment being made on October 31.
