PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- The total number of murders and shootings in Peoria is down compared to the same time last year.

There have been eight homicides in Peoria as of Sept. 30 this year, compared to 17 in the same time last year, according to the year-to-date shooting report from the Peoria Police Department. There were no reported murders in the month of September.

Of the homicides that occurred in Peoria this year, the oldest victim was 70 years old and the youngest was less than a year old.

Last year, there were a total of 21 homicides, according to the report.

There are also fewer shootings and gunshot victims compared to last year. So far this year, there have been 46 shooting incidents, which is down from 62 in the same time last year. Those incidents had 50 shooting victims, wh
