PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Two people were arrested Tuesday for aggravated arson and for endangering a child for allegedly refusing to leave an apartment in the Lexington Hills complex after an oven began smoking, police say.
Tkeyah S. Murray, 22 and Curtis D. McBride, 36, were both taken to the Peoria County Jail on those counts and remained there late Wednesday afternoon. It's possible they could be formally charged as soon as Thursday.
Officers with the Peoria police and fire departments were called at 8:22 p.m. to the 3400 block of Fallen Oak Lane to a report of an apartment fire, said Semone Rot, a police spokeswoman.
When first responders arrived, they learned there were two adults and three children inside the apartment, she said.
The adults initially refused to leave the apartment
