WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A candlelight vigil will be held on Wednesday evening in Hays to honor Sgt. Scott Heimann, the officer killed in the line of duty on Sunday.
The vigil will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Thomas More Prep–Marian High School. Organizers are encouraging attendees to carpool to ease parking congestion. The organizers will have candles in limited supply and ask people to bring their own if possible.
Heimann was killed Sunday while responding to a domestic violence call. Authorities said 34-year-old Zane Wickham shot Heimann during a standoff after officers surrounded Wickham’s home. Police found Wickham inside the house with what they believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A visitation for Heimann will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathol
