West Virginia quarterback Nicco Marchiol will miss the remainder of the season and plans to medically redshirt and enter the NCAA transfer portal at the end of the year, On3 reported Wednesday.

Marchiol had been battling a foot injury the last few weeks. He missed last Saturday's Mountaineers loss to Utah due to that injury and was seeing a foot specialist in Colorado, according to coach Rich Rodriguez.

The Arizona native started his college football career with the Mountaineers, as he enrolled at West Virginia in January 2022.

He was redshirted his freshman season, only seeing action in three contests.

Marchiol played in nine games in 2023, starting one of those. He played a vital role in the 2023 Backyard Brawl against Pitt, a 17-6 Mountaineers win.
