Mayor John Beddows is introducing new measures aimed at increasing transparency in Gananoque’s 2026 budget process, including a public consultation meeting where residents will have a chance to comment on the draft budget before it goes to council.

“This puts our managers’ best advice on the table, and in the public eye,” Beddows said. “What is, or is not funded in the town budget is a policy decision that is the responsibility of the elected officials and involves decisions that belong in public.”

The move adds a new stage to the process, giving residents, service clubs, the chamber of commerce and the BIA an opportunity to weigh in before council deliberates. No date has yet been set, but Beddows said the meeting will be announced in advance and held outside of normal working hours to
