Detroit — Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park, a stunning $80 million addition to the downtown riverfront that had to overcome a $44.3 million scandal, opens Oct. 25 with a two-day Harvest Fest celebration.

Detroit Riverfront Conservancy officials gave a sneak preview Wednesday of the 22-acre park at 1801 W. Jefferson on the western edge of downtown. It took three years to overhaul the space formerly called West Riverfront Park. Before it closed, the park included a stretch of the popular Riverwalk, a pedestrian and bicycle path alongside plenty of empty space.
