CEDAR COUNTY, Mo. — The family of a man killed in a crash earlier this year has filed a lawsuit against General Motors (GM) and another driver, alleging negligence and vehicle defects contributed to his death.

Court records show Carol, Daniel and Tiffany Polter — all of Ottawa, Kansas — are suing General Motors LLC and Janice Broom, a Stockton woman, in Cedar County Circuit Court. The suit seeks damages for wrongful death.

The petition says the crash happened on Feb. 24 in Cedar County on Mo. 32. Carol Polter was eastbound in a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer with Gary, Tiffany and Daniel Polter as passengers when Broom, driving a 2017 Buick Envision westbound, crossed the centerline and struck their vehicle head-on.

Gary Polter was killed, and the other family members were injured.
