LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights found the University of Kentucky violated the federal Civil Rights Act.

In March, it was announced that UK was among a list of universities under investigation by the Trump administration.

It was based on UK’s association with the PhD Project, a nonprofit that helps students from underrepresented groups get degrees in business with the goal of diversifying the business world.

Shortly after the investigation was announced, UK President Eli Capiluto announced that the university was ending its relationship with the nonprofit .

However, President Eli Capilouto says the investigation concluded UK “endorsed, promoted and benefited from a program that limited participation based on race.”
