PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — The University of West Florida has received a grant from the Department of Education to expand its Summer Institute for Civic Educators, according to a school news release.
The grant, just over $1.5 million, will allow the school to transform the summer institute into the Academy of American Civic Republicanism, giving K-12 teachers, university students, and members of the community the chance to receive a better civic education.
“One of the most exciting projects our department has undertaken in recent years has been the development of our Summer Institutes for middle and high school teachers of civics, American government, and U.S. history," said Dr. David Ramsey, professor and chair of the UWF Reubin O'D.
