(KRON) -- The University of California Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault as a hate crime.

The incident happened Sept. 30 at 2:48 p.m. in the area of Bancroft Way and Telegraph Avenue, according to the UC Berkeley police daily crime log.

It is not yet clear what led to the incident.
