New Delhi: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of mortality in India, accounting for nearly 28% of all deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Alarmingly, the prevalence of CVDs has doubled in both rural and urban areas over the past three decades. Unlike in Western populations, Indians tend to develop heart disease at a much younger age—often before the age of 50. Statistics reveal that 50% of heart attacks occur before the age of 50, and 25% before the age of 40. In 2022 alone, over 4.77 million deaths in India were attributed to cardiovascular diseases.
