WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) - A man was arrested for striking a statue at a church in Waterbury.

Kyran Atkinson, 23, of Wolcott, was charged with several crimes, police said.

Police said they responded to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on West Main Street in Waterbury on Wednesday around 8:10 a.m.

There were reports of a disturbance that involved a weapon.

Whey they arrived, officers said they saw Atkinson striking the statue.

They said he refused to comply with officers’ commands, so they deployed a Taser.

Atkinson was taken into custody and charged with two counts of second-degree breach of peace, first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer, and deprivation of rights.

He was held on a $100,000 bond and given a court date of Thurs
