WATERBURY, Conn. — Waterbury Police arrested a man Wednesday following disturbance at Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

Police said that at 8:11 a.m., they were called to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception at 74 West Main Street for reports of a disturbance involving a weapon.

Upon arrival, officers observed a man, later identified as Kyran Atkinson, 23, of Wolcott, hitting a statue. Police said Atkinson did not comply with officers’ commands, and a taser was deployed.

Atkinson was then taken into custody without further incident.

Atkinson was charged with two counts of breach of peace, first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer, and deprivation of rights.

Atkinson is being held on a $100,000 bond pending his court arraign
