CRETE TOWNSHIP — Police say 23-year-old Angel Lopez-Torres was the person killed early last month after being shot along with a driver in a vehicle in Crete Township, Illinois, located immediately west of St. John.

"The female victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head, remains in critical but stable condition at a local hospital," according to the update from the Will County Sheriff's Office.

Police say the homicide investigation continues with numerous leads being pursued.

"The Will County Sheriff’s Office understands the concern this tragic act of violence has caused within the community," officials there said.
