Walmart said it is removing some ingredients from its private food brands that shoppers likely will not miss.

The retailer announced on Oct. 1 that it will eliminate synthetic dyes and the use of another 30 ingredients, such as certain preservatives, artificial sweeteners and fat substitutes, from its private brand products.

The change includes the brands Great Value, Marketside, Freshness Guaranteed and bettergoods.

Walmart said the evolution is the result of customer preferences. The company said 62% of customers want more transparency and 54% say they review food ingredients.

“This commitment demonstrates how Walmart is responding to changing customer preferences, while also setting the standard for providing exceptional quality and innovation at an outstanding value,” said John Fu
