Hanover Police are investigating after a resident was defrauded out of over $100,000 in an online romance scam.
Police said the local resident is out approximately $117,000 since 2021.

“These cases are becoming more frequent, with total losses reported in the hundreds of thousands of dollars every year that involve many victims in our community. With many more frauds going unreported by those who are victimized, these crimes are having a significant impact on Canadians coast to coast,” said Hanover Police Chief Chris Knoll in a media release.
Police said romance scams typically involve someone posing as a romantic interest online, often through social media or dating platforms.
