BELLEVUE, Neb. ( WOWT /Gray News) – The federal government shutdown is creating uncertainty for thousands of military families across the country.
Officials at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska say about 2,300 civilian employes are being furloughed, while roughly 1,200 contractors remain on the job.
Active-duty service members continue to carry out missions, but base leaders acknowledge that the uncertainty over delayed paychecks is putting stress on military families.
“To be honest with you, it’s a lot of uncertainty,” said Kris Pierce with Offutt Air Force Base.
Pierce said federal employees in furlough status will receive back pay once funding is restored. But in the meantime, families are struggling with difficult financial choices.
