WASHINGTON — Snapchat users who rely heavily on the app’s Memories feature will soon need to pay to keep all their saved photos and videos stored on the platform.

Snap Inc. it is introducing new Memories Storage Plans for users who have more than 5GB of saved content, which is the equivalent of thousands of Snaps. The company said the change is necessary to support the growing costs of infrastructure, noting that more than 1 trillion Memories have been saved since the feature first launched back in 2016.

Most Snapchat users fall under the 5GB threshold and won’t see any changes. But users who exceed the limit will be offered three upgrade options. According to the initial options will be 100GB for $1.99 per month, 250GB included with a $3.99 Snapchat+ subscription or 5TB through a new $1
