PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. — Gov. Jeff Landry has announced that tolls on the Belle Chasse Bridge have been suspended following frustration from drivers and business owners.

Landry made the announcement in a video posted to social media.

"BREAKING NEWS: The tolls on the Belle Chasse Bridge are suspended!" Landry said.

Earlier this week, Governor Landry said a relief plan was in the works after meeting with State Senator Pat Connick and DOTD officials.

Landry placed blame for the toll problems on what he called a poorly negotiated bridge deal made during former Gov. John Bel Edwards’ administration.

Plaquemines residents with GeauxPass tolls have faced much higher-than-expected charges, including one since May despite following registration rules.
