CORTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) - Cortland voters will see an additional levy for the city's police department on their ballots this November.
The Cortland Police Department provides around-the-clock police protection with just nine full-time officers and one part-time officer.
"We relied on part-time officers years ago, and that's what our budget is designed to sustain, is part-time officers. Those are impossible to get nowadays, therefore, we're forced to use overtime," said Police Chief David Morris. Drastic increases in overtime and healthcare costs are why the department is asking voters to approve an additional $1.5 mills continual levy.
"I believe that we provide our residents with a great service, and we'd like to continue to maintain that service," Morris said.
