A popular pathway over the Brandywine Creek has reopened in Wilmington after four years of waiting and replacement.
The Bancroft Mills Bridge is the main pedestrian connection between Alapocas Run State Park and Rockford Park, but it was damaged by record flooding from Hurricane Ida in 202, with nearly 49,000 cubic feet per second of flood water struck the 120-year-old bridge, deeming it unsafe.
Delaware was able to attract $2.7 million in funding from FEMA under the Robert T. Stafford Act to replace the span using money intended for avoiding reoccurring hazards.
