TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Tucson Police Department has identified the victim in a fatal hit-and-run on South 6th Avenue.

TPD said Jorge Alberto Mejia, 52, was hit by a a vehicle while attempting to cross the street and later died from his injuries.

TPD said the fatal crash occurred on Oct. 1 around 2 a.m., in the 1100 block of South 6th Avenue.

Evidence and witness statements revealed that Mejia was hit by a light-colored SUV traveling north in the median lane on 6th Avenue. He was not in a marked crosswalk at the time, according to TPD.

TPD said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene before emergency crews arrived. Authorities are focused on locating the SUV and its driver.

TPD urges anyone with information to contact 911 or 88-CRIME to remain anonymous.
