The Medal of Honor Celebration is an annual gathering of our nation's living recipients.

A city is selected each year to honor the recipients and their families and this year, Chattanooga is that city.

There are a total of 3,528 Medal of Honor recipients. However, there are only 61 of them living.

On Thursday, Chattanooga police officers and firefighters were able to shake the hands of these heroes.

The Medal of Honor recipients were able to share their stories and experiences at the celebration.

Chattanooga firefighter Troy Garcia said, "When you talk to them, they are so humble."

He says the recipents are relatable.

"I mean these are folks that are saying they are doing their jobs," Garcia continued, "and obviously they've done very extraordinary things."
