LIBERTY, Neb. (KOLN) — A bond has been set for the man accused in the brutal death of his girlfriend’s 5-year-old son and the beating of her 1-year-old girl.

Court documents show 31-year-old Timothy Erks Jr. appeared in Gage County District Court without counsel on Wednesday. He requested that his bond be reviewed while he continues to work on hiring counsel.

Erks Jr.’s previous attorney filed a motion to remove himself as a defense counsel on Sept. 16, citing a breakdown in attorney/client communication.

The district judge set Erks Jr.’s bond at 10% of $10 million. He’s charged with two counts of child abuse resulting in no injury, child abuse resulting in death and first-degree false imprisonment.
