A Burnaby man found guilty of manslaughter in the stabbing of a 17-year-old boy on a Surrey bus on April 11, 2023 was expected to be sentenced on October 2 in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster but it has been paused to hear testimony from a court-ordered expert concerning disputed facts.

The court will reconvene on October 23 to fix a date for this hearing.

Justice Terry Schultes delivered his verdict against Kaiden Mintenko, 21, on March 20. He was tasked with deciding if Mintenko is guilty of second-degree murder or the lesser included crime of manslaughter following a 10-day trial that began on Dec. 2 and concluded Dec. 19.

"I haven't seen anything yet unfortunately," Schultes told the lawyers on October 2.
