KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - If you see a Kinston officer this month, you might notice some colorful touches on their uniforms.

Throughout October, the department is wearing pink and purple patches to support victims of breast cancer and domestic violence.

They say efforts to show support, like the patches, help build their relationship with the community.

“It’s very important for us as an agency to show support and for the people to know we’re supporting them at the same time,” said Major Kevin Jenkins.

Breast cancer is something very personal for city officials in Kinston.

City Administrative Manager Althea Simmons says she knows all too well about the hardships it can bring.
