BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Deputies said a Powellsville man who was violating his probation gave them a false name when they stopped him for a driving offense last month.
Deputies stopped Robert Smith’s car on September 17th for acting suspiciously, initially giving him a driving charge. After investigating, they said he was avoiding his probation and gave them a different name.
The 28-year-old was arrested by Hertford County deputies yesterday.
Smith was charged with felony identity theft, felony forgery of endorsement, and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.
He was jailed on a $10,000 secured bond.
