WESTFIELD, N.Y. — The changing healthcare landscape including new federal Medicaid funding challenges, technology, and health insurance standards for hospital stays are all pushing rural hospitals in Western New York to explore new business approaches.

Westfield Memorial Hospital in Chautauqua County is one of those facilities now on a new path to serve its community and help secure its financial future.

Westfield Memorial Hospital now officially has a federal and state designation as a rural emergency hospital . That status means they have closed out their expensive to maintain previous four bed inpatient unit which only had an average of ten patients a month. They will now instead focus on their emergency room operation.
