LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -The state of Michigan, alongside 19 other states, is suing the Department of Justice.

The group filed a lawsuit to stop a new DOJ rule focused on undocumented immigrants.

That rule bars states from using federal grant money to provide legal services to undocumented immigrants who are the victims of domestic violence and other crimes.

The 20 states, including Michigan, argue the rule violates the spending clause in the US Constitution.

The lawsuit claims the rule would retroactively apply to grants already distributed to the states.
