MEMPHIS, Tenn. - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and health departments across the Mid-South are reminding women of the importance of getting regular screenings to test for the disease.

In Mississippi, their State Department of Health (MSDH) reminded that not only the second most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States, it's also the leading cause of cancer death for non-white women. During October, MSDH said they'll be hosting events intended to emphasize the importance of being screened early for a disease that kills about 400 Mississippi women each year.
