Gov. Kevin Stitt appointed a new State Superintendent of Education on Thursday, following Ryan Walters' resignation. Lindel Fields will step into the role and has been working in Oklahoma education for three decades.
Along with an announcement of the governor called on Oklahoma lawmakers to send a state question to the ballot that would make the state superintendent of public instruction an appointed position.
