WATKINS GLEN, NY (WENY) -- Students from the Athens Area School District showcased their space-related projects on Thursday, October 2nd, at the Harbor Hotel in Watkins Glen. Among those to celebrate their achievements was retired NASA astronaut and Elmira native, Eileen Collins.

"My project was about the stars and certain constellations. Specifically, the constellation of Draco. It has 15 stars, and we are doing the apparent brightness and the distance from Earth they are," said Fifth Grade SRU Elementary School Student, Emerson.

Riley, another fifth-grade student, said, "Our project is about the constellation Pegasus. We were each assigned in my group a couple of other stars, and we worked on that. It was really fun. Our project got chosen, and it was a great time working with my grou
