(WENY) -- New York Attorney General Letitia James says social media companies will now have to be more transparent about how they deal with harmful content online.

The “Stop Hiding Hate Act,” signed into law late last year, officially went into effect on October 1. The law requires social media companies that generate more than $100 million annually to submit reports twice a year to the Attorney General’s office, outlining how their platforms handle hate speech, racism, disinformation, and harassment.
