NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) -- New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart is stepping down at the end of her term, paving the way for Republican Sharon Beloin-Saavedra and Democrat Bobby Sanchez to face off in a general election.
Beloin-Saavedra, the Assistant Minority Leader of the city's Common Council, and Sanchez, who represents the city in the Connecticut House of Representatives, met at the New Britain Public Library on Thursday evening for a debate.
Residents showed up to the debate eager to hear about what each candidate plans to do with what Mayor Stewart has built.
"The housing has been terrific," Beloin-Saavedra said about the work done by Mayor Stewart to increase the city's housing stock. "The infrastructure that she works so hard on, all of the streetscape projects that are bringing in
