LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A metro council leader is now backing several families who believe a ring of criminals work together to illegally transfer homeowners’ deeds and pass them off as their own.

Recently, it came as a surprise to Dorothy Turpin’s family that the house on 26th Street she’s owned for decades was being put up for sale. They soon discovered the property was no longer under the 89-year-old’s name.

“Just a few days and now we may potentially have to fight for years to get her home back,” said Dorothy’s great niece, Ashley Mack.

Turpin now lives in a nursing home, but her lifetime of treasured belongings were left behind on 26th Street. So, when her neighbors began asking why there was a “For Sale” sign in her front yard, the mystery only deepened.
