NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- Virginia State Police said a teenager has life-threatening injuries after being shot inside a vehicle that crashed on Interstate 64 in Norfolk Thursday night.

Around 7:41 pm., State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on the ramp from westbound I-64 to Military Highway, Exit 281.

A silver SUV ran off the road and crashed, State Police said, and before leaving the roadway, the SUV had been fired on by someone in an unknown vehicle. The left-rear passenger was shot, State Police said, and suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. State Police said five people, all teens, were inside the SUV.
