The State Pension age is scheduled to begin increasing from 66 to 67 next year, with the rise expected to be finalised by 2028 for all people born between 6th March 1961 and 5th April 1977. This planned change to the official retirement age has been enshrined in law since 2014, with a subsequent increase from 67 to 68 earmarked for implementation between 2044 and 2046.
A former Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) worker has delivered a sobering caution regarding these proposed increases. Throughout her 42-year tenure at the DWP, Sandra Wrench was involved with State Pension and benefits departments, yet she highlights concerns about the "difficulty for some people remaining in work until that time".
Speaking to the Daily Record , Sandra said: "People in heavy manual work may find it
