A man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for the "brutal, cruel and inexplicable" murder of his partner during a camping trip in 2021.

Rohen James Hanson, 42, bowed his head and silently cried as he was sentenced for murdering Dee Annear in the Bulga Forest.

Hanson was found guilty by a jury of Ms Annear's murder after a second eight-day trial earlier this year, after an initial trial held last year was unable to reach a verdict .

Ms Annear's body was found outside a remote logger's cabin, two hours west of Port Macquarie, after Hanson called triple-0 on the morning of September 18, 2021.
