Authorities in South Australia have scaled back the search for four-year-old Gus, who went missing from a regional property near Yunta almost a week ago, with investigators now focusing on ongoing lines of inquiry.

The frantic search entered its sixth day on Friday, but police have now revealed they will shift their focus into a “recovery phase”.

Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott addressed the media on Friday where he confirmed the search had been “one of the largest most intensive” for a missing person in the state’s history.

In a heartbreaking update, he said the family had been informed on Tuesday night that “we may not be able to find him alive”.
